About me

I’m Paula, designer and maker at Sweet Somethings Cakes, and I’d love to help bring your cake vision to life! I specialise in creating elegant, bespoke, and of course, delicious cakes. With a background in Fine Art, I give every cake that all-important attention to detail to make your cake-cutting moment truly special.

What began as a hobby 23 years ago – when I ‘borrowed’ my dad’s cake decorating equipment to make my daughter’s first birthday cake (a fairy toadstool) – has completely taken over my life… and my kitchen! You could say baking and cake decorating are in my blood. My dad was a trained chef, pastry chef, and baker during his long naval career, and I remember watching him practice for his pastry exams with incredible skill and patience, creating delicate mille-feuilles and elaborate, fruit-laden gateaux. I’ve been lucky to have his expert tuition on hand ever since.

Dad never did get his equipment back!

I’m fully registered, with a 5-star food hygiene rating, and hold both Level 2 Food Hygiene and Allergy Awareness certifications.
